The National Park Service is celebrating its centennial, focusing on the 1916 founding and anticipating the next one hundred years. November 15, 2016 at 6 p.m. the Missouri Geographic Alliance and University of Missouri Beta Xi chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU) invites you to the special presentation “America’s Best Idea: The National Park Service at 100 years”. Diane Eilenstein, a park ranger from George Washington Carver National Monument, will be available to answer questions.

There are currently 413 units of the National Park Service. Can you name the first national park? What about the first national park in Missouri? George Washington Carver National Monument holds the distinction of the first unit of the National Park Service set aside specifically to honor African American history. How was Harry S Truman involved? You are invited to stop by and learn more about the history of national parks, career options in the National Park Service, and to take a closer look at Missouri’s national parks. Free copies of the National Park Service Centennial Map will be provided.
