Soren Larsen

Good morning, everyone!

It is one of the great pleasures of the spring season to bring you news of the job and graduate-school offers that our graduating students are landing. I’m so happy to announce that Fran Rodriguez-Hart will be going to…University of Nevada-Reno Department of Geography on a full-ride assistantship!!! Congratulations, Fran! We are proud of you! And if you have job or school news to share, please email me or stop by and I’ll put it in the “Monday morning email” file for future announcements!

Are you ready for the big unveiling of the Kit Salter Studio Map Board?!? Today! 4PM! On Zoom: https://umsystem.zoom.us/j/94718355763. This map board is to honor Kit Salter, former geography professor and chair of MU Geography, but it really is for all of us here @MizzouGeog to pin photographs of all the cool places we have been—and all the cool places we will go as Covid-19 travel restrictions begin to ease. Also, if you haven’t met Kit Salter yet, you’re in for a real treat. Shall we say that there is no one quite like Kit! So please, if you can make it, please do come to the dedication today and celebrate Kit and our brand-new map board!

Look in your inbox for an invitation to Mizzou’s Beta Xi chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU), the international Geography honor society.  Graduate and undergraduate students who meet GTU’s academic qualifications (www.gammathetaupsilon.org) have until Tuesday, April 6 to complete their membership application.  For more information or questions, e-mail Dr. Hurt at hurtd@missouri.edu.
