Calling all undergraduate geography majors! Applications for the Jesse H. Wheeler Undergraduate Student Ambassadors Program are now open. The application deadline is March 18, 2021. Up to two students will be paid to represent the department, plan Geography events, and spread the awesomeness that is Geography to your peers during the Fall 2021 semester. Plus, you get a snazzy MU Geography polo. I have attached two Word documents: an application form and a prospectus/job description (in particular note the “duties” and “application” sections). If you have questions, please e-mail Dr. Doug Hurt at hurtd@missouri.edu.
Please come to this awesome talk the Geography Department is sponsoring next week! Queer theorist and critical cartographer Dr. Jen Jack Gieseking (University of Kentucky) will give a research talk entitled, “Constellations: Mapping Queer Cities of Survival and Desire” on March 8 at 4PM. This talk is part of work that is featured in Dr. Gieseking’s recent book, A Queer New York: Geographies of Lesbians, Dykes, and Queers, 1983-2008. A happy hour to follow from 5-6PM with breakout rooms will allow everyone to have some time with Dr. Gieseking in a small group setting. The Zoom link is: https://umsystem.zoom.us/j/94017752070.
