What's New @MizzouGeog? 2.17.20
Good Monday morning, everyone! Here’s what’s new @MizzouGeog this week—
- We are privileged to have alum Colonel Bryan Watson (BA Geography, ’93) on campus this week to receive the A&S Distinguished Alumni Award. Col. Watson currently serves as the Air Force’s Chief Trial Judge, presiding over federal military trials while leading the Air Force’s 26 trial judges across five judicial circuits around the world. His military service includes multiple assignments as the senior attorney at large federal installations both inside the United States and overseas, the General Counsel of the White House Military Office, and, most recently, the Commandant (Dean) of the U.S. Air Force JAG School. He will be visiting Dr. Hurt’s Senior Seminar class this Thursday, and having lunch with students on Friday. If you see Col. Watson in Stewart Hall this week, please be sure to say hello!
- Col. Watson is here as part of Arts and Science Week 2020. The College is hosting a number of events this week, including the College Update and A&S Awards with Dean Okker on Tuesday, 3-4pm, Jesse Wrench Auditorium, Memorial Union South. For a complete list of events, please see: https://coas.missouri.edu/event/arts-and-science-week-2020.
- If you are planning to be around during Spring Break, we need timekeepers for the annual Geography Bee on Friday, March 27. This is an opportunity to have some fun while watching the next generation of geographers on the rise. Contact Dr. Doug Hurt (hurtd@missouri.edu) if you are interested.
- Are you interested in an internship? Dr. Matt Foulkes is growing the opportunities available in our internships program this semester. You can receive credit for your work through Applied Geography and Cartography (GEOG 4945), and we have dedicated space for interns now in room 211. If you are interested in an internship, please talk to Dr. Foulkes!
Hope you all have a great week—
