Rebecca Scott, associate professor of sociology, has been awarded affiliate faculty status within the geography department. This one-year adjunct faculty position, a courtesy appointment, began on Jan. 1, 2020.
As an affiliate faculty member, Scott — selected due to the “strong, mutually beneficial linkages” she already has with the department — will serve on graduate committees and will also serve in an advisory capacity to searches for faculty positions held within the department.
Scott’s areas of study include “environmental inequality; settler culture; gender, race, and class; nature, place and embodiment; material culture; critical masculinity and whiteness studies; property; fossil fuels; mining; fracking; regionalization, racialization and national identity,” according to the sociology website.
She has a PhD from the University of California-Santa Cruz, has won many awards, and has featured works in a dozen or more publications.
