What's New @MizzouGeog? 12.6.21

Soren Larsen

Welcome to the last week of classes, everyone! We have a couple events that will bookend this week nicely:

Today at 5pm! Geography Happy Hour at Shakespeare’s Pizza! Come join faculty, staff and students for a laid-back social hour at Shakespeare’s—with the first round of pizza on us. We won’t have another happy hour until next February, so definitely come out if you can.

This Friday, December 10 (Reading Day) at 11am in Stewart 216: Geography Department Annual Winter Potluck – feast on honey ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls and all the fixin’s with the Geography Department and friends. This is a great way to break the stress heading into Finals Week and to catch up with everyone as the dust begins to settle on this semester. Please bring a food item to contribute to the potluck!

Geography major Sarah Frost will be delivering a Geography Department Colloquium on her Honors Capstone Research entitled “Perceptions of Geography in Columbia, Missouri High Schools” next Wednesday, December 15 at 1pm on Zoom. Yes, this during Finals Week but we hope you can make it! Sarah has worked very hard on this project, and the results yield important insights into how we teach and promote Geography at the high-school level. I will send out an invite closer to time but meanwhile, the link is here: https://umsystem.zoom.us/j/96298623933?pwd=Unc4N3o0MXJ3SFFkUGZjWDE2Nm9xZz09

Please do not forget to donate your non-perishable food items to the Food Bank receptacle at the west end of Stewart Hall, second floor. We have more than enough to go around!

If anyone is interested in helping plan the Geography Department’s spring trip to Taum Sauk/Johnson’s Shut Ins in late April, please email me and/or Dr. Doug Hurt (hurtd@missouri.edu)!

This will be the last Monday morning email until next semester! But definitely send me your news, events, kudos or anything else you would like to broadcast far and wide. In the meantime, on behalf of the entire Department of Geography, we wish you all the best of luck for Finals Week, and a restful and joyous holiday season.

M-I-Z!

G-E-O!
