Three Geography Students Walk in Graduation Ceremonies

Colton Kimminau, along with two other seniors from the geography department, walked during fall 2019 graduation ceremonies held Dec. 14.

In December, the College of Arts and Science and other University of Missouri colleges held graduation for more than 2,000 students.

A&S, which includes the Department of Geography, celebrated commencement services Dec. 14 at the Hearnes Center.

Among geography majors scheduled to graduate were undergraduate seniors Nick Hoehne, Colton Kimminau and Ryan Munos. About 10,000 individuals flooded into the Columbia area for winter ceremonies at Mizzou and other colleges.

Kimminau and Hoehne commented on their degree programs, memories and futures.

Geography Department: What was your field of interest in geography?

Kimminau: My field of interest in geography is GIS and that is my emphasis also; I also enjoy cultural geography as well.

Hoehne: I was interested in GIS.

Geography Department: Why did you choose geography?

Kimminau: I love maps and the world we live in. I can't think of a better major that I can do what I love to do for a job.

Hoehne: I chose geography for the flexible career paths in the field.

Geography Department: What was your best take-away from geography?

Kimminau: My best take-away from geography is that criticisms of maps are all solved by saying "it depends."

Hoehne: Almost everything is related to geography.

Geography Department: What was your fondest memory at the university?

Kimminau: My fondest memory at Mizzou is all of the fun times I have had with my friends and associates whom I have met while going to Mizzou.

Hoehne: The Maymester course in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

Geography Department: What now?

Kimminau: My next plans are to find a GIS job wherever that may be.

Hoehne: I am applying for GIS-related jobs.
