MU Geography at the Boston AAG

MU faculty, students, and alumni friends Emma Walcott-Wilson (currently a PhD student at University of Tennessee), Soren Larsen, Julie Saperstein, Jared Whear (currently a PhD student at Syracuse University), Matt Foulkes, and Dave Knieter (currently a PhD student at West Virginia University) outside Duozo Sushi in Boston.

MU Geography was well represented at the annual meeting of the Association of American Geographers in Boston, Massachusetts April 5-9. Five of our faculty members participated in meeting sessions, panels, and events along with graduate student Julie Saperstein, who presented her research on the Jason-3 satellite in the session entitled Human Rights and the Geopolitics of Outer Space. Friend of the department Becky Scott from MU Sociology also attended the meeting as an invited panelist on the geographies of sacrifice zones.

In what we hope will become an annual tradition, MU Geography hosted the first ever “MU Geography Alumni and Friends Happy Hour” at Clerys Boston on Friday of that week. What a wonderful time was had reconnecting with alumni and bringing new friends into the fold of Mizzou Geography. The celebration went long into the night, capped by a late meal at Duozo Sushi.
