What's New @MizzouGeog? 2.3.20

What a game! Congratulations to the Chiefs! Did you know? The Chiefs have one of the most geographically expansive fan bases in the U.S. as measured by ticket holders by county. As you shake off the grogginess this morning and get ready for the week, check out this geographical study from SeatGeek: https://seatgeek.com/tba/articles/where-do-nfl-fans-live-mapping-football-fandom-across-the-u-s/

What else is New @MizzouGeog this week?

  • Are you interested in an internship? Dr. Matt Foulkes is growing the opportunities available in our internships program this semester. You can receive credit for your work through Applied Geography and Cartography (GEOG 4945), and we have dedicated space for interns now in room 211. If you are interested in an internship, please talk to Dr. Foulkes!
  • Dr. Kit and Cathy Salter recent gifted the department a skookum conference table to the department. It is located right outside the kitchen on the second floor of Stewart. Dr. Salter’s wish is for all you students to use this table for geographical discussions with your peers—and maybe even to get some work done between classes! Soon, we will begin putting up the Salter Studio in that space as well, which will feature the fieldwork and study abroad experiences of our faculty and students.
  • Our very own James Kaemmerer will be leading an interactive remote sensing activity for the upcoming Columbia Young Scientists Expo in Memorial Union this Saturday, using publicly available imagery from the Missouri Spatial Data Information Service (MSDIS). Thank you, James, for leading these young scientists to geography!
  • Please join us for the first HRC/Geography Club/GTU Happy Hour today at 5:15 at The Heidelberg. First round of appetizers are on the house! We will toast the Chiefs and the New Year together, so please make it if you can!
