What's New @MizzouGeog? 1.21.20

Welcome baaaaack, everyone!

Here’s to a great spring 2020 semester. We have some great events lined up…

  • Thursday, February 21 at Noon: Student luncheon with Colonel Bryan Watson (BA Geography, ’93), Commandant (Dean) of the U.S. Air Force JAG School. Colonel Watson will be on campus to receive the A&S Distinguished Alumni Award and you are invited to have lunch with him to talk about how geography helped him in his career with the Air Force and General Counsel of the White House Military Office. Open to geography majors and graduate students. If you are interested, RSVP to Debbie Cutler (dac7tb@missouri.edu) by February 3rd.

  • Friday, April 3 at 3pm (102 Stewart Hall): “Around the World in Eighty Days,” with Matthew Goodman, New York Times Bestselling Author. Goodman will be on campus talking about his book Eighty Days: Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisland’s History-Making Race Around the World, which describes the frenetic 1889 race of Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisland to circumnavigate the globe in less than eighty days. Come get your book signed by Matthew and learn more about the incredible feats of these two women!

  • Wednesday, April 8 at 3:30pm (location TBD): Mizzou Reunion and Happy Hour at the AAG Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado. If you are headed to Denver for the AAG Annual Meeting, join us for the Mizzou Reunion and Happy Hour, a great time to see old friends and meet MU Geography grads you never knew!

And of course, mark your calendars for the Geography End of Year Party on Stop Day, May 8 at 3pm in 102 Stewart Hall with reception BBQ on Tiger Terrace. Come for the awards, stay for the food! And just think: right now, it’s about 16 degrees outside. Come May, the first warm weather of summer should be upon us!

I hope you all have a wonderful semester filled with learning and personal and professional growth. If you ever find yourself struggling, or confronting a challenge you can’t seem to surmount, don’t hesitate one bit to stop by my office, or the office of any geography faculty member, to talk. We are here to help you through it.

Yours in Geography,
