Geography Has First Day Fun on Campus

Mark Palmer's outdoor class on the first day of the new semester.

It may be the first day of the school year, and a challenge with Covid-19, but geography instructors are finding fun ways to teach while keeping their distance. Professor Mark Palmer teaches GEOG 3560 (Native American Geography) outdoors on a nice summer day.

Dakota Ioanis

A couple of geography’s new TAs stopped by Stewart 202 for a visit today. Dakota Ioanis took his first class with Professor Clayton Blodgett, Intro to GIS. “He didn’t’ scare me off,” Ioanis says. “I was kind of worried with GIS as I don’t have that technical background. But I am excited about taking the course as it will be enriching.”

Ioanis’ first day of teaching is tomorrow: Regions & Nations. “I’m very excited,” he says. “I’m getting to work with students, all fresh-faced and naïve to the college experience, all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.”

Seth Kannarr

Seth Kannarr took Biogeography with Professor Grant Elliott and GIS with Clayton Blodgett today. “I enjoyed a nice lunch on campus, had office hours, and am looking forward to teaching my sections later this week.”

He is teaching Regions & Nations, and said he is happy about the snack basket (full of chocolate) in the main office.

Welcome new TAs!
